Preserve Your Precious Moments with Our Custom Photo Books

Time slips away, but photographs often lay forgotten on shelves, only revisited during a move or spring cleaning. At Peter Lane Studios, we transform these dormant snapshots into vibrant, living stories. Our custom photo books are not just gifts but treasures, preserving the happiest moments of your life in print forever. Let your photographs narrate your cherished memories to future generations with our stylish fine-art designs.

Why Choose us

Imagine turning your wedding photos into a magazine-style photo book, a treasured keepsake that becomes the foundation of your new family’s history. It’s more than a photo book – it’s the bible of your love story, crafted with care and designed to last a lifetime. We take pride and honour in creating something so valuable for you.

Our Vision for Your Albums

Our approach to wedding albums is to create your family’s Holy Book. We photograph your special day with the album in mind, knowing that while a single image can be striking, it’s the collection of images that truly tells your story. Backed by a solid background in beauty retouching and visual arts, our team designs each album as a unique piece of fine art. Crafted by the finest Italian artisans, our bespoke photo albums feature world-class materials known for their longevity.

The Wedding Album Experience

We invite you to a personal meeting to touch, feel, and experience the quality of our albums firsthand – the only way to truly appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship that goes into preserving your memories. Like a fine wine, our albums are designed to appreciate value over time.

Quality Matters

Be cautious of photographers who compromise on album quality for lower costs. While their products might look similar initially, the inferior quality becomes apparent as colours fade and binding deteriorates. We adhere to the adage, “I’m not too rich to buy cheap products,” ensuring that our albums stand the test of time.

What Sets Our Albums Apart

•Design Excellence: Our albums are designed by professional graphic artists educated in visual communications, ensuring a visually stunning layout that leads the eye.

•Creative Integrity: Unlike software-generated albums, ours are crafted with creative insight, capturing the essence of your special day.

•Professional Retouching: Every image is meticulously retouched by experienced professionals, ensuring no closed eyes, inappropriate shadows, or visible imperfections.

•Optimized for Print: We ensure that each album is optimised for print quality, a detail often overlooked by others in the industry.

We also offer video footage of completed wedding albums for you to appreciate the material quality, design consistency, and seamless blend of documentary and artistic photography. Deluxe Albums Workflow

DISCLAIMER: We often address “wedding album” as this type of album is the most requested, but it’s not only about wedding albums. The rest of the albums, like the christening album, bar mitzvah album, birthday or baby album, portfolio album, etc, follow the same or very similar workflow.

Deluxe albums offer two options: DIY and Premium

Premium Deluxe Albums

Exclusive collaboration with GRAPHISTUDIO’s Italian albums underscores a commitment to customization, durability, and longevity. Details on available models are provided at the page bottom.

Clients initiate the design process by specifying their preferences for size, number of pages, paper type, covers, packaging, and budget. Various options are presented for selection. Upon approval, a £100 deposit is required, and clients are directed to an online gallery or Google Drive folder to upload photos. An interactive proofing album with video instructions is provided for requesting amendments. The initial preview is complimentary, and typically suffices in 90% of cases.

Following amendments and final approval, the balance is settled, and the album is sent to print.

DIY albums

It’s a simple process. The client receives an upload online gallery. After uploading the photos, the client picks one of the few album types. Each one provides ready templates for drag and drop. The client can add pages and choose different layouts according to the number of photos per page/spread. All pages can be previewed. The price is dynamic based on the number of pages. Simple.

Why do you need a professional and experienced album design provider?

Well, most of the photographers out there are not even professional photographers. Sorry about that! We’ve seen a lot to say that. We have more than 15 years in this industry. Having a website and a business card that says a photographer doesn’t necessarily make one. This is half of the problem. The other half is that there are brilliant photographers in the industry, but they don’t have any knowledge and experience to design, layout, tell a story with images, and very important – to print!

90% of the photographers now use drag-and-drop software, which will do the layout job. No storytelling at all! Just populating empty pages with randomly spread images. Next, next, and finish! Print.

It is roughly the same process when you order from cheap online vendors.

Now you know the wrong way, so let us explain the right one.

Technical education

Every digital file photo is just a source of information. If you want a nice-looking and sharp print with vivid colours, using this image is not enough. Every printer or offset works with different profiles and settings. Different papers also have different profiles and instructions for the printer and the ink. Skipping monitor calibration and tons of extra technical knowledge. So, printing a non-optimized image for the specific printer and paper will deliver mediocre results. Well, if the client doesn’t have the chance to compare it with a professionally printed image, they can still like it, but this is another story.

This is about the technical stuff. Scratching the surface, of course.

Our wedding album-making workflow

Now to the designer’s part of album making. The goal of every album is to tell a story. The layout should lead the eye and provoke feelings. Every spread should reveal a unique story. The good album is like the good wine. Ageing makes it more attractive and desirable.

NOTE: When we speak about ageing, it’s very important to note that we always work with the world’s best providers, offering durability and longevity. If the client is “on budget”, we suggest the DIY option. The low-end online vendors offer a lot of disappointment in the long term. It’s a shame to open your album in 20 years and to realise that colours fade off, corners split apart, etc.

So, our wedding album workflow and what to expect by working with us:

1/ The very first page comes with a nice font introduction that usually comes from the client. It could be just “Our wedding” and date, a poem, a vow, etc. The second page on the right-hand side (still on the first spread) is either a romantic photo of the bride and groom or a close-up detail, like a wedding ring, wedding dress, etc.

2/ The last spread is again a photo of the bride and groom (whoever the event hero is) on the left page and our studio signature on the last page, the right one. The album starts and finishes with the couple. 90% of the cases.

3/ Every spread tells a certain story in chronological order. No overlapping! We don’t mix, let’s say, venue details plus the first dance, group shots with bridal preps, or ceremonies with dancing people. This is taboo! This rule guarantees certain feelings in the viewer years after the event. You look at the ceremony spread and discuss with your guests’ memories from this moment. Then you flip the page, and you remember the funny speech of the groomsman. Everybody was laughing at photos to complement the hero image of the groomsman. Then, the next spread, everybody crying, together with a hero emotional photo, etc. A good album is not just a book with images but rather a memento experience.

Occasionally, we have requests: “We’re on a budget and want to merge the pages”. We have to explain that merging the dancing page with another one is fine if the client can live with smaller photos, of course. However, merging one story with another is totally wrong from the designer’s point of view.

4/For Every spread we design, we pick a hero photo and make it full-page or larger than others. If there are a few photos that compete with each other, then we will exclude them and design accordingly.

5/ The album workflow is a step-by-step interactive dance with the client. We have a general step-by-step workflow section on this page that provides more details.

– We always design more pages than the agreed amount if the client provides a lot of photos and different stories. It is easier for us to offer more and let the client remove the excess than the opposite. It’s a great time saver, and guess what? 99% of our clients approve and love the extra pages. At this point, you have two options: A/ comment on the extra pages for deletion and pay nothing extra, or B/ approve the layout or amend it by adding or reducing extra pages and pay for the extra pages for £25 per page. Sometimes, upgrading the album size for a better design and avoiding the thumbnail look is reasonable.

– The proofing process goes in 2 stages. The first stage is design approval. The client receives a link to their digital online album, with the ability to click on a photo and comment on the desired changes, like replace with …, remove, add on another one, make it bigger, move it to another page, etc. Approve the whole page or mark for removal. After clicking on the finish button, we receive the clients’ comments and redesign according to the desired changes. The client has one free layout review.

– After layout approval, we start working on beauty retouching, body shaping, other improvements, colouration, sharpness, skin smoothing, etc. Followed by file optimisation for the specific printer and paper type. To save time, we don’t retouch all hundreds of images piece by piece. We export each spread and treat it as an individual image that contains the spread images. So we don’t provide retouched images afterwards; we only provide retouched spreads for the purpose of the album. This is why we don’t accept structural/layout amendments at this stage, as we have to start everything from scratch. Unless paid, of course.

– The next step is choosing the colour theme and covering/boxing material preferences. We offer hundreds of them to please everyone.

–  The next step before printing is to request the payment for extra pages/materials, etc.

– The album comes in 1-2 months. The client can’t hold tears of joy, and we’re over the moon for the great job that we deliver.

So, dear ladies and gentlemen, now you understand why our albums can’t compare to others. We always request that local clients come and visit us. From the moment they touch and feel our albums, they don’t go any further.

Step-by-step instructions

PREMIUM ALBUMS

Our album workflow is smooth, interactive and online-based. It’s very easy and a huge time saver for both of us. All you need to do is to read the instructions and watch the video carefully. Simple!

Stage 1 – Choose the album model from the options below

See the available sizes, colour themes and materials for your chosen model, paper types and thickness, boxing and other available options, like ribbons, writing, engraving, etc.At this point we can advise you about minimum/maximum pages, price for certain pages and guide you to choose the right options according to your budget.

Stage 2 – Design Preview

We pick the album photos and prepare the first (free of charge) layout for you.

We send it to you for approval using an online interactive proofing service, where you approve/disapprove page by page.

Offline design service also available – £200p/h.

Watch this 1-min. video instruction on how to use the service

WATCH IT ONE MORE TIME! IMPORTANT! It saves time for both of us as you won’t have to describe photos but pin & comment instead. You pin and comment on photos, pages, and spreads to be amended, deleted, replaced or added, and we’ll see your comments exactly where you left them. You don’t need to describe the photo, just pin it and comment on it, for example: “make this bigger”.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The image file name is (find it in your online gallery under the photo or take it from your computer file manager) not the order named 1, 30, 55 … etc., but FILENAME-01.jpg, for example. Copy and paste (with or without .jpg). If you send a list with improper filenames, it will be ignored, and you’ll lose precious time to find their correct names and resubmit again.

Rules to follow

1/ one spread = 2 pages – left and right. If you commend the left page for deletion, we can’t keep the right one only, so you have to let us know what to do with It. Choose other photos, merge them with another page or delete the whole spread.

2/ No mixing of colour and BW on a single page/spread.

3/ The story-telling rule is to cover one story per page. Don’t overlap a few stories (different timelines) of the day on one spread. For example, mixing room shots with family portraits or dancing people on a spread has no storytelling value.

4/ There are no restrictions on the volume of photos, but If you pick many extra photos (and your package album is 30x20cm), consider upgrading to a larger size album, or you’ll see thumbnails. A maximum of 110 pages is allowed, but we don’t advise more than 100 as the album becomes very heavy and may break the spine over time.

Don’t comment on photos for retouching and editing at this stage. Comment layout amendments only.

Stage 3 – Design Approval

After your amendments (if any), we send you the edited layout for final design approval. If you still want to apply structural changes, then it goes with an extra charge of £100.

Stage 4 – Editing and Optimising for print

After the layout approval, we start to optimise and edit the photos. Photos are not edited one by one, but every spread is treated as a single photo.

Stage 5 – Final Approval

After the retouching stage, we send it to you for final approval. For cosmetic amendments, you won’t be charged, but if you decide to apply any layout layout changes, a fee of £100 will be applied.

Stage 6 – Album Options

You pick your colour theme and choose the cover, boxing options, materials, etc. Many options are already included in your collection; if not, you’ll be advised of the extra cost. Nothing will be ordered without your written approval.

Stage 7 – Print & Delivery

We send the files to a print company in Italy and wait for 1-2 months. The total extra cost is to be paid now.

Stage 8 – Delivery and raves

You gather your family, film the unpacking, flip the pages and the excitement,  and, of course, share it on social media.

By reading this, you agree to album process terms & conditions. Thank you!

DIY Workflow

After uploading your high-resolution album photos, you receive a beautiful private gallery. From there, you follow the video instructions below. During the process the price updates automatically.
